Rekortan M and Laykold at the Campo Sportivo Sa Tanca Noa, Sardinia, Italy
Athletics and tennis as a sustainable and economical solution
Oschiri is a small Italian commune in the north of Sardinia, not far from Olbia. Oschiri and its surroundings are popular among holidaymakers indulging in agritourism. In the summer of 2022, the local sports facility Campo Sportivo Sa Tanca Noa was expanded and renovated from the ground up. It includes a complete athletics facility, including a running circuit with six lanes and an integrated sprinting track, as well as run-up lanes for long jump, high jump and hammer throw. In its immediate vicinity, a tennis court has likewise been renovated.
All the lanes of the athletics track were renewed with Rekortan M in brick red. The consistency of the Rekortan M tread strikes the perfect balance between excellent shock absorption and maximum acceleration – properties that are appreciated by both middle-distance and short-distance runners alike.
All areas were refurbished by our installation experts using the re-topping process. To do so, used and worn synthetic surfaces are completely technically and cosmetically restored. This is an extremely economical and explicitly sustainable solution for the renovation of sports facilities, as the existing elastic substructures can remain in place, rather than being disposed of.
The tennis court next to the Campo Sportivo Sa Tanca Noa was renovated with Laykold, which is currently the leading sports surface for the biggest tennis events in the USA and Canada. Seven of the twelve most prominent hard-court tournaments there are played on Laykold, including the U.S. Open.
The playing surface itself is dark blue, in contrast with the surrounding surfaces in light blue. The Laykold System consists of structured synthetic resin with high-quality pigments and special quartz sand. It offers a permanent cushion and outstanding shock absorption. Its proven quality, excellent playing characteristics and homogenous, even surface make Laykold an attractive option.
The surface is also valued for its eco-friendliness by operators of sports facilities: it is extremely durable and UV-resistant, and can be used in any weather. What’s more, Laykold is a cost-effective way to revive old playing surfaces on asphalt or concrete in order to extend the lifespan of a sports pitch.
