Sustainable top performance: modern sports facility in Berlin Reinickendorf

In Berlin Reinickendorf, on Reginhardstraße, a modern sports complex has been built that offers a wide range of uses.

At the center of the complex is a high-quality artificial turf field with LigaTurf, which offers lined playing areas for both American football and classic soccer. This innovative product from the “Green Technology” portfolio is based on sustainability: The filaments consist of bio-based plastics, sugar cane residues obtained from agricultural production waste and recycled plastics (PCR). At least 20% of the filaments consist of recycled plastics, while around 80% of the fibers are made from bio-based material. Production is also carried out using 100% green electricity.

There is a circular track around the playing field, which was designed with the Rekortan M high-performance surface in brick red. This proven synthetic covering is designed for top sporting performance and, thanks to its elastic base layer and solid construction, offers optimal conditions for professional athletes, ambitious amateur athletes and at the same time for school and popular sports. The segments of the circular track were designed for various jumping disciplines.

In addition, the Polytan SMART system is integrated in the innermost circular track and in the middle sprint track. The digitization of sport is becoming increasingly important and with SmarTracks diagnostics technology, athletes and coaches can carry out precise performance analyses in the areas of speed, endurance and strength. Magnets built into the system record movement data, which is recorded by a sensor on the athlete and evaluated in diagnostic software. This creates a detailed athletic profile to optimize individual training management. In this system, the system also contributes to the digitization of school sports, as sprint and endurance times can be automatically recorded and no longer have to be manually stopped.

A course was built directly adjacent to the running track. The PolyPlay FS GT fall protection surface was used in the circular track and course segments. This fall protection not only meets the requirements of RAL GZ 943/3, but also comes from the Green Technology portfolio, just like the LigaTurf Cross GTR in artificial turf fields.

The water-permeable, shak-coated PolyPlay FS GT surface is also characterized by its easy-care and cushioning effect, which protects athletes from injuries. The high resistance to weathering and rotting ensures a long life and low maintenance costs. The color scheme in Berlin Reinickendorf was brick red with light blue accents.

The complex is primarily used for school sports. The main users are the European Gymnasium Bertha-von-Suttner and the Gustav Freytag High School, which are located in the immediate vicinity. The modern infrastructure thus offers optimal conditions for students to further develop their sporting skills under professional conditions.
