School Schloss Salem – A Sustainable Olympic-Standard Hockey Pitch
In early summer 2024, School Schloss Salem – one of Europe’s most renowned boarding schools – inaugurated a new artificial turf pitch on its campus, setting a new benchmark in sustainability, performance, and multi-functionality.
This prestigious institution is known for its commitment to fostering academic excellence alongside cultural and athletic development. The new pitch, featuring Polytan’s Poligras Paris GT zero, integrates seamlessly into this holistic approach. Originally developed for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, this pioneering turf is fully CO₂-neutral, offering elite playing conditions while embodying a strong environmental ethos.
The surface distinguishes itself through exceptional playing characteristics, excellent grip and sliding behaviour, and sustainable production. Manufactured using bio-based raw materials in a climate-neutral process, it also features Dry technology: while the pitch can be watered when required, it is also designed for dry play, significantly reducing water consumption.
Covering an area of 8,500 m², the pitch includes a rainwater cistern for environmentally friendly irrigation. Coloured line markings enable use for football and general school sports, further enhancing its versatility. The facility meets the standards for Germany’s second-tier national hockey league, offering not only pedagogical value but also the potential to host high-calibre sporting events.
With this forward-thinking project, School Schloss Salem reaffirms its dedication to sustainable, future-oriented infrastructure – set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Constance and the Alps.
