At Polytan, we look at the entire process, which is why we offer everything from a single source. Green Technology brings together Polytan products and technologies that use defined material or manufacturing features. These include, for example, products with specified proportions of recycled or bio-based raw materials, as well as technologies for recovering and reusing materials. Green Technology is a Polytan product attribute and not a certificate or quality seal issued by an independent body.
Which of these features are used differs depending on the product and technology. That is why we state the respective properties and – where relevant – the corresponding material proportions on the individual product pages. You will find the relevant evidence for the materials and technologies in our FAQs.
For selected artificial turf systems, we use I’m green™ polyethylene from Braskem, which is made from sugarcane, in the polyethylene filaments. The bio-based carbon content is determined batch by batch using ¹⁴C analysis in accordance with ISO 16620-2:2019. According to the current test reports, it is approx. 55 % for the straight fibre and approx. 78 % for the textured fibre. The values refer to the tested filaments, not to the entire artificial turf surface or system.
For products with the suffix “R”, a proportion of post-consumer recycled material (PCR) is included in the fibre formulation – for example 20 % in both the straight and the textured fibre of LigaTurf Cross R. PCR is reprocessed plastic that has already been used once. The proportion is allocated using an ISCC+ certified mass balance approach and refers only to the fibre formulation.
In Germany, Polytan and FormaTurf offer a take-back service for end-of-life artificial turf: the surfaces are processed and the recovered materials are used for new applications, e.g. perimeter board systems for soccer courts or multi-sport facilities. End-of-life synthetic surfaces and elastic layers from running tracks can also be processed into new elastic layers through our mechanical recycling.

Depending on the sport and the desired playing characteristics, artificial turf systems can be fitted with different types of infill: quartz sand alone, sand with elastic granulate, or sand with cork or other organic fillers. The infill influences playing feel, grip, ball roll and player protection.
Cork is a lightweight natural raw material that is suitable as infill for artificial turf sports fields due to its excellent cushioning properties. Combined with a stabilizing quartz sand layer, cork can be used in various RAL-certified artificial turf systems.

Artificial turf filled with BrockFILL feels like natural grass and provides optimal traction. The infill material meets the standards set by World Rugby and outlined by FIFA in its Quality Programme for artificial turf systems.
Quartz sand is found in almost every artificial turf field – it stabilizes the blades and protects the backing material. The combination of an elastic base layer and a densely woven turf carpet ensures high playing comfort. Sand-filled artificial turf systems can be complemented with additional infills.
BioFusion consists of olive pits and cork in a special mixing ratio. It combines the properties of both materials into a well-balanced infill offering a combination of elasticity, density, compactness, resistance and abrasion resistance.
Corn Cob is an organic infill made from corn cobs. It supports playing comfort, keeps the fibres upright and contributes to a natural playing feel.
