On its completion in March 2014, the Skoogs Arena in Piteå became the northernmost athletics arena in Sweden. Spread over an area of around 4,200 square metres, it offers sufficient space not only for the practice of numerous track and field disciplines, but also for other types of sport such as boules, shooting, wrestling and gymnastics. Two large changing rooms, a stand for spectators, various secondary rooms and a fitness zone complete the layout. The sports surfaces consist of the durable Polytan S all-round system. Its smooth yet non-slip surface makes it equally suitable for ball sports players and for performance-oriented amateur track and field athletes. The colour scheme used for the synthetic surfaces in the Skoogs Arena is particularly eye-catching: the 400-m circular tracks, the 60-m tracks and the 40-m tracks have been laid in alternating shades of “Rainbow Blue” and “Teal” (blue-green). The architects at Arkitekthuset Monarken AB opted for “Rainbow Green” for the inside lane of the circular track. All the other sports surfaces are a traditional brick red colour.
