In June and July 2015, nine final-round matches of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada, including the final on 5 July, were held in BC Place, one of the most modern multifunctional stadiums in the world with a spectator capacity of around 54,500. The coveted trophy was won for the third time by the US team after a 5:2 victory in the final against Japan. They secured the title after possibly the most beautiful goal of the tournament, a precise shot from a distance of 48 metres straight into the opponent’s goal – and achieved on brand-new artificial turf from Polytan.
The system installed in BC Place is the LigaTurf RS+ CoolPlus, upgraded with a BiColour colour variant for a rich, natural shade of green, the ultra-modern Infill Bionic Fibre and the required pile height of 60 mm. The infill ensures an even softer surface. The two soccer clubs that play their home games at BC Place, the Vancouver Whitecaps (Major League Soccer) and the BC Lions (Canadian Football League), will benefit in particular in the future from the high quality turf.
