Solutions for intensive use
The sports complex does not have an everyday name: “Am breiten Luch”. The word “Luch” indicates a marshy meadow or moist basin that must have existed here before. Of course, there is nothing more there now to testify to this as the sports ground is located in Neu-Hohenschönhausen in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg. And the Hohenschönhausen-Nord construction area is known as the last large settlement of the GDR; the district is considered the most populous in the entire district. Anyone who operates a sports complex here must expect an enormously high intake – with the corresponding wear and tear.
In fact, the “Am breiten Luch” sports complex is frequented by three neighbouring schools, two sports clubs and residents. And right next door, there is shared accommodation for refugees who will be offered an additional range of leisure activities here.
The large playing field in particular – originally natural turf encircled by a dirt track – had become a case for renovation due to years of intensive use. This is why the entire complex has now been modernised from the ground up with funds from the urban redevelopment programme and the sports facility renovation programme. Our synthetic turf field Polytan LigaTurf Motion with CoolPlus function is now located within the stadium oval, combining three different fibre technologies for a perfect result and does not require infill granulate. The LigaTurf RS+ filament used is the benchmark worldwide for wear resistance under high loads. Both the original substrate made of crushed natural stone and the topsoil of the turf pitch could be reused for the new facility and the plant borders.
The artificial turf field is equipped with two large-field goals and four mobile youth goals to use in half of the field as well. Ball-stop fencing surrounds the playing field on three sides. Polytan Spurtan WSS, our all-rounder for intensively used competition and training facilities, was used as a circumferential synthetic surface.
On the two straight tracks of the running track, five or six sprint lanes are equipped with our Polytan SMART system, allowing precise time measurement and performance diagnostics for classic running disciplines. Essential parameters are recorded, which can then be improved upon through targeted training. Polytan SMART offers optimal training facilities for all performance classes, from school sports and popular sport to elite sport. Compared to other time recording options, our system also has the advantage that it can be used in parallel by several athletes, i.e. different athletes or teams can all be training at the same time.
The general renovation in Neu-Hohenschönhausen also includes a long-jump system with two running tracks in the southern curve radius of the sports complex. In the northern curve segment, two volleyball pitches are also line marked for use with mobile net posts. A shot-put facility was also installed on the other side of the running track. A beach volleyball facility with a permanent net has been added.
