Polytan at the Bundesgartenschau 2023 in Mannheim

Looking ahead to a green future

The Bundesgartenschau in Mannheim more than just a flower show: it is dedicated to asking the important questions about the future, and tackles issues such as a green tomorrow, the changing climate and conserving resources. It also generates ideas on current issues such as climate, energy and environment, and shows how city and nature can be combined.

Innovation and sustainability is also Polytan’s goal. We are represented in multiple ways at the Bundesgartenschau. For example, the musical playground, where children can playfully generate sounds and make music on various equipment, is equipped with our PolyPlay FSI GT fall protection surface. This surface is the result of our environmentally friendly “Polytan Green Technology”. It combines BASF Infinergy® and a specially developed binding agent with cardyon® technology.

The result: outstanding fall protection properties, thanks to high shock-absorbing elasticity, and optimised material consumption through reduced pour density. On the musical playground, PolyPlay FSI GT is installed as a “Grey Mixture” in the colour combination Light Grey, Pearl and Eggshell, and is also used on additional play stations and obstacle courses. That way, our little musicians are optimally protected. Users of various stations of the calisthenics facility will also benefit from the outstanding fall protection surface, which is installed as a “Beige Mixture” in the colour combination Beige, Eggshell and Pearl.

The same surface is installed in the BASF exhibition space, this time in the colour Brick Red. In this interactive exhibition, the chemical company presents ideas on the subjects of climate protection, recycling, renewable resources and e-mobility. The goal is to demonstrate that chemistry can help to achieve climate-neutrality and conserve resources. One of these innovations is BASF Infinergy®, an ingredient in Polytan’s PolyPlay fall protection surface, which uncoincidentally serves as the floor for the exhibition space.

In the “House of Landscapes”, the paths between the individual exhibitors and several exhibition and office areas are fitted with our Polytan Poligras synthetic turf in Field Green. As variant Poligras Paris GT zero, this surface is not only extremely robust, but will also be the first climate-neutral synthetic hockey turf to be used at the Olympic Games 2024 . The PolyPlay Arena is equipped with a similarly innovative surface: LigaTurf Cross GT zero is the first CO2-neutral football turf available for professional and amateur sports.

Peter Eberhardt, Head of Sales for the region South, provides a summary: “We are delighted to have been able to show a selection of our highly developed products in use at the Bundesgartenschau. They combine the latest technological know-how of the plastics industry with functional and ecological benefits. Our sustainable and durable products benefit from resource-efficient, climate-friendly technologies, which we have recently developed. In Mannheim, we are able to present our motto to a wide audience: We make Sport. Greener.”
