Polytan LigaTurf RS+ with CoolPlus Function at the Kolossi Community Stadium, Limassol, Cyprus
Environmentally friendly training in a Mediterranean paradise
Kolossi is a town of around 6,000 inhabitants near the city of Limassol on the southern coast of Cyprus. On the third-biggest Mediterranean island, locals and tourists alike can pursue every sport imaginable: popular choices include diving, fishing, surfing and sailing – and even skiing is possible on Olympos, the highest mountain in the Troodos Mountains.
Among locals, basketball, volleyball and, above all, football are particularly popular. 14 teams are represented in the Cyprus Football Association, including AEL Limassol, which has claimed six championship titles and has won six Cypriot Cups and four Super Cups. Since 2023, the team has played its home games at the Limassol Arena, while its training sessions, on the other hand, are conducted at the Kolossi Community Stadium. There, the club also runs an academy for young footballers.
In 2022, we installed our highly robust turf system LigaTurf RS+ with CoolPlus function at the Kolossi Community Stadium. This top-class product for professional football turf systems is in a league of its own – thanks to its outstanding playing properties and exceptional wear-resistance. This can be attributed to both its intelligent yarn system and its exclusive mixed material, consisting of rhombus-shaped and extra-thick turf fibres. The innovative ENTANGLEMENT technology from Polytan guarantees soft filaments with a thick cross-section, long-lasting optimal shock absorption, as well as ideal ball rolling and bouncing characteristics.
The optimised cross-section of LigaTurf RS+ ensures that the fibres right themselves after use, which makes the surface extremely durable. This helps maintain its realistic properties for many years, without the need for additional maintenance work. The integrated Polytan CoolPlus function permanently reduces overheating of the turf in direct sunlight and is extremely effective, especially in the case of textured turf systems, thanks to the large surface area for reflecting heat radiation. At the Kolossi Community Stadium, our LigaTurf RS+ with CoolPlus function was realised with environmentally friendly cork infill: a natural, renewable material that is up to 100 percent biodegradable. The pitch is certified by FIFA.
