Multifunctional sports facility at the Wartbergstadion in Alzey

A modern and versatile sports facility has been developed at the Wartbergstadion in Alzey, designed to cater for school and club sports as well as training activities. The facility forms part of a comprehensive sporting environment: in the immediate vicinity there are, for example, tennis courts, the Wartbergbad swimming pool and an equestrian centre with its own riding facilities.

Together with the Wartbergstadion, which features an athletics track, several artificial turf pitches and a dedicated hockey pitch, numerous sporting disciplines are brought together in one central location.

The main user of the Wartbergstadion is Turnverein 1846 Alzey, which makes extensive use of the facility for club and training activities. At the same time, the sports facility is also available for school sports and other local sporting activities, thereby making an important contribution to the region’s sporting infrastructure.

The centrepiece of the facility is the new Rekortan M athletics track, finished in Hertha Blue. One section has been deliberately designed in Capri Blue, creating a visual highlight within the synthetic track. Thanks to its solid construction and elastic base layer, the high-performance Rekortan M surface ensures excellent athletic properties and provides optimal conditions for training and competition.

Within the running track lies a multifunctional football pitch featuring LigaTurf Cross R, fitted with a sand and cork infill. This infilled artificial turf combines smooth and textured filaments, whose respective advantages complement each other to form a high-performance turf system. The smooth filaments provide the look and feel of natural grass, whilst the textured filaments ensure reduced maintenance, improved infill stabilisation and increased turf volume.

In addition, the turf is partly manufactured from recycled raw materials, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the facility. The selected cork infill is also a renewable material and offers excellent shock-absorbing properties.

The pitch features combined markings for football and American football, with the different lines clearly distinguished by colour. This allows both sports to be played flexibly on the same surface.

The facility is complemented by a smaller training pitch, also fitted with LigaTurf Cross R and sand and cork infill, which is primarily used for football. In addition, a dedicated hockey pitch has been installed using Poligras Tokyo, finished in blue, creating a striking visual feature within the sports complex while harmonising with the running track.
