Modern artificial turf pitch for sustainable football in Leipzig

With the completion of the new artificial turf pitch for Roter Stern Leipzig ’99 e. V. in 2024, the club will have a modern and sustainable sports facility that offers optimal conditions for training and matches.

A bound elastic base layer using PolyBase GT was installed beneath the turf system. This ensures optimal shock absorption, enhances playing comfort and contributes to the long-term quality and durability of the entire pitch system.

On top of this lies the innovative LigaTurf Cross GT zero artificial turf system in the BiColour colour combination of Limegreen and Fieldgreen. LigaTurf Cross GT zero is a high-performance solution for the most demanding requirements in club and recreational sport. The system impresses with its robust and durable fibre technology. The combination of textured and smooth fibres ensures high durability and excellent playing characteristics.

Both the elastic base layer and the artificial turf are part of Polytan’s Green Technology (GT) line, which aims to reduce CO₂ emissions and the use of fossil-based raw materials throughout the entire product life cycle. This is achieved, among other things, through the use of bio-based or recycled materials.

To ensure sustainability right down to the very last layer, cork was used as infill. This natural material offers pleasant playing characteristics, minimal heat build-up on hot days and represents a sustainable and environmentally conscious alternative to conventional infills.

The combination of the base layer, artificial turf and infill creates an artificial turf system that is both functionally and ecologically impressive.

As a special feature, the club opted for a customised design by directly integrating the club logo into the artificial turf. This not only gives the pitch a distinctive character, but also strengthens identification with the club and creates a real eye-catcher on the site.

With the new facility, Roter Stern Leipzig ’99 e. V. is investing in sustainable infrastructure and creating a modern hub for sport, community and exercise in Leipzig.
