At this year’s FSB trade fair in Cologne, Polytan presented a showpiece that seamlessly combined sustainability, functionality, and maximum playing comfort. The PolyPlay Arena GT — a modular soccer court built from recycled materials — quickly became a gathering point for planners, architects, and designers exploring the future of sustainable sports infrastructure.

The arena’s perimeter system is compliant with DIN EN 15312 and stands out for its exceptional robustness, stability, and durability. At the same time, the innovative construction significantly reduces noise levels caused by ball impact compared to conventional systems.

Compact, Flexible, and Highly Effective

In the heart of our cities, on club grounds, or in schoolyards — wherever movement and play are part of daily community life — compact mini-sportfields invite players of all ages to get active. Delivering maximum impact in a small footprint, these versatile fields combine sporty fun, vibrant design, and technical sophistication.

Polytan’s mini-pitches are true all-rounders: besides football, they offer space for numerous sports. They can be equipped with football goals, basketball hoops, or center-line nets for various activities. As an alternative to modern, eco-friendly artificial turf, Polytan also offers high-performance synthetic surfaces ideal for sports such as handball or badminton.

With the right add-on elements, a mini-pitch can easily be transformed into a multi-functional sports arena. Thanks to its modular construction, the system can be quickly installed and configured in different size variations. Depending on the selected equipment, the mini-pitch can also be made vandalism-proof, while its robust build ensures year-round use with minimal maintenance — a key criterion for municipalities and educational institutions seeking long-term value.

FormaTurf FlexBlock: Sustainability Rethought

The arena’s perimeter takes on an important role: instead of using conventional materials, the installation featured FormaTurf FlexBlocks — massive, modular construction elements made from recycled artificial turf, developed by FormaTurf, a Sport Group company.

These high-density recycling blocks give retired artificial turf systems a meaningful second life. They are extremely durable, weather-resistant, and reusable — a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials in sports and landscape construction.

By integrating FlexBlocks into the PolyPlay Arena GT, Polytan and FormaTurf demonstrate an impressive closed-loop materials strategy: transforming what would otherwise be waste into a functional, aesthetic, and long-lasting product.

Artistic Highlight at FSB 2025

The PolyPlay Arena GT showcased at FSB 2025 featured a unique artistic touch: one side of the arena’s perimeter was decorated with a graffiti artwork. Using spray paint, Stuttgart-based artist Matthias Megyeri transformed the FlexBlock wall into a colorful composition — a lively mix of abstract shapes and urban elements that visually captured the energy of the game.

This created an exciting interplay between sports architecture and contemporary art, turning the soccer court into both a space for movement and a striking visual statement. It reflects the shared belief that sports facilities can be functional, aesthetic, and emotionally engaging all at once.

Neue Bahn, olympische Ambitionen
