Projects like this are what make us particularly proud: together with our partner ErgoMass, we are currently creating a new Polytan athletics track featuring Melos Premium EPDM granules at the historic Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
This means we are becoming part of a truly special project at one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues. Built more than 2,300 years ago, the stadium is known as the Kallimarmaro – Greek for “beautiful marble” – and is now receiving a completely new athletics track built to the latest World Athletics standards.
As the host venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the stadium is deeply connected to Olympic history. The new track will help create the conditions for international athletics events at the highest level once again.
The new track also makes a statement in terms of colour. It will be installed in the distinctive Hertha Blue, a shade already used for the athletics track at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and at other stadiums across Europe. Here you can find out more about the range of EPDM granules.

Together with the unique setting of the historic stadium, this creates a modern athletics track that fits impressively into the iconic Kallimarmaro.
The replacement of the existing track by ErgoMass is a key part of the stadium’s extensive modernisation. The new Rekortan M track system will be installed to international competition standards, providing athletes with excellent conditions for future high-level athletics events. The inside of the track will feature Rekortan PUR in Eggshell. The project also includes extensive cleaning of the marble grandstands and a new lighting system for the entire stadium.
In this way, the project brings together Olympic tradition and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.
The history, international appeal and sporting significance of the Kallimarmaro are truly unique. We are therefore especially proud that athletes will soon be competing on a Polytan athletics track with Melos EPDM granules in this extraordinary and historic stadium.
