Sustainable, modern, future-proof: the municipality and FC Bischofswiesen celebrate the fully refurbished sports facility

Bischofswiesen – Following intensive planning and construction, the refurbishment is now complete: the school and community sports facility in Bischofswiesen has been fully modernised and is ready for the future. Nestled in the heart of the Berchtesgadener Land, on the edge of the national park, this is a very special project – combining top sporting quality with ecological responsibility.

Green progress on the artificial turf football pitch

The old artificial turf, installed in 2006, had reached the end of its service life. It has now been professionally removed and replaced with Polytan’s innovative LigaTurf Cross GT zero. This new, climate-neutral football turf requires neither microplastics nor irrigation. Instead, a sustainable infill of sand and cork delivers the required performance. The existing elastic layer beneath the turf was retained, conserving resources. This solution benefits not only the environment but also the municipality’s budget.

“The fact that we can now offer a particularly sustainable yet high-quality sports field in our unique location on the edge of the national park is a great asset – for the club, the schools and the entire community,” says Sebastian Vorberg, Chairman of FC Bischofswiesen. “It was important to the municipality and to us to create a solution that would stand the test of time – not just for today, but for the next 15 years.”

A new level of athletics – with digital technology

The athletics facilities have also undergone a complete overhaul. The original tartan surface from the 1980s has been replaced with a modern Rekortan BS synthetic surface in classic brick red. In addition, the Polytan SMART system with 30 digital measuring points has been installed – a major advantage for data-driven training and precise performance analysis.

A place for all generations

The upgraded sports complex is home not only to the schools and footballers of FC Bischofswiesen, but also to the track and field athletes of ASV Strub and the sportspeople of WSV Bischofswiesen. It also serves as a training venue for schools, recreational athletes, and partner clubs. It stands for active inclusion, youth development, and vibrant village life – values cherished by both the clubs and the municipality.
