High-performance training facility at INSEP in Paris

A state-of-the-art athletics facility for elite sport has been developed at INSEP (Institut National du Sport, de l’Expertise et de la Performance) in Vincennes, near Paris. INSEP is one of France’s leading training centres and serves as a base for top national and international athletes.

As part of the project, Polytan France installed an athletics track specifically tailored to the diverse requirements of high-performance training. The aim was to combine different training conditions within a single facility, thereby enabling maximum flexibility.

A key feature of the facility is the combination of various Rekortan systems, together with a carefully considered colour and functional concept. The track is predominantly finished in brick red and combines Tartan GOLD 16 mm) with Rekortan M (13 mm).

The Tartan surface (16 mm) is characterised by its high elasticity and cushioning. It offers a comfortable, joint-friendly running experience and is ideal for intensive training sessions, as well as for endurance and recovery work.

By contrast, Rekortan M (13 mm) is a dynamic, high-speed surface designed for efficient force transmission. Its solid construction ensures direct energy return, making it particularly suitable for fast-paced sessions and a wide range of performance-focused training applications.

Particular attention should be drawn to the design of the jumping areas: whilst the run-up zones are finished in brick red, the surrounding areas and edging are designed in Capri blue. This deliberate colour differentiation not only creates a strong visual contrast but also supports orientation within the facility.

The combination of different surfacing systems creates a multifunctional training environment that allows various training methods to be carried out efficiently and in parallel – from explosive sprint and technical drills to low-impact sessions.
