A Showcase of Integrated Sports Excellence

In early 2023, Fitzalan High School in Cardiff unveiled its newly redeveloped sports facilities, a central part of Cardiff Council's Super School initiative. Together with the adjacent Cardiff City House of Sport, the project has created a leading multi-sport hub for both students and the wider community. A broad portfolio of Polytan’s advanced synthetic surfaces ensures best-in-class performance across a variety of sports.

A key feature of the redevelopment is the LigaTurf RS+ full-size pitch, installed exclusively for football. Renowned for its durability, playing comfort and natural ball behaviour, LigaTurf RS+ supports high-intensity training and matches for both school teams and local clubs.

A central highlight of the outdoor facilities is the LigaTurf Legend Pro field with line markings for both rugby and football. This robust, high-performance surface uses Polytan’s multi-shape fibre technology, ensuring excellent resilience, a reliable ball roll and long-lasting visual quality — ideal for multipurpose training and match play across both sports.

Running the full length of this rugby and football pitch is a Rekortan BS sprint straight, a defining feature of the site. Distinguished by its striking blue colour, this cushioned, energy-efficient track is designed for sprints, acceleration drills and athletic development. Engineered for optimal grip, force reduction and speed, the Rekortan BS straight enhances both PE lessons and targeted performance training, making the rugby–football complex a uniquely versatile sports zone.

The site also includes another LigaTurf Legend Pro field dedicated solely to football, providing a specialised surface for focused training and competitive fixtures.

The complex features a blue Poligras SuperPlay field, installed primarily for hockey but also suitable for a variety of other low-impact sports. The sand-dressed synthetic turf delivers predictable ball response, excellent stability and minimal maintenance — an ideal solution for both school programmes and community groups.

In addition to the larger playing fields, the complex features two 3G Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs). These Multi-Use Games Areas are designed to accommodate a wide variety of school and community sports. Their flexible line markings and durable surface make them suitable for various sports activities and general PE. Whether used for structured lessons, after-school clubs or informal play, the courts provide an adaptable space that supports an engaging multi-sport programme.
