Polytan and Melos present themselves as one entity for the first time – Melos is integrated into the Polytan portfolio as the world's strongest product brand for premium granulates. Innovation meets sustainability: At FSB, Polytan, together with FormaTurf, SYNLawn and Melos, presents the latest solutions for forward-looking, environmentally friendly sports facilities.
As the international trade fair for public spaces, sports and leisure facilities opens its doors in Cologne, Polytan GmbH and Melos GmbH will be appearing side by side for the first time. This closer collaboration marks a key step in the group’s strategic realignment: Melos is being incorporated into the Polytan brand portfolio. “By integrating Melos into the Polytan brand world, we are uniting decades of material expertise and top quality under one roof,” says Mathias Schmidt, Managing Director of Polytan GmbH. “This allows us to deliver even more comprehensively on our promise: everything from a single source – with premium quality guaranteed.”
In addition to our established synthetic turf brands – LigaTurf, LigaGrass and Poligras – our polymer systems division is expanding with another strong name. Under the Polytan umbrella, we now unite a comprehensive range of product lines: Rekortan, our high-performance surface for athletics tracks; PolyPlay, the safe and versatile option for playgrounds and multisport areas; Laykold, a premium coating designed for tennis, padel and pickleball courts; and Melos, the leading brand for top-quality EPDM granules. Together, these brands form a complete portfolio of professional polymer surfaces for sport and recreation. “With Melos joining the Polytan family, we are combining innovation and sustainability in a way that will have a lasting impact on the sports surface market,” adds Dominic Jünemann, Head of Polytan Distribution. As part of the integration, the Unirubber production site and trade brand will also be consolidated under Melos to leverage synergies in R&D and manufacturing, further strengthening expertise in modern polymer technologies.
Based in Melle, Lower Saxony, Melos GmbH has long been recognised as a global leader in coloured plastics and EPDM rubber granules. Containing over 20% pure EPDM, the granules are distinguished by exceptional elasticity, tensile strength and crack resistance. Thanks to their optimal material density, colour consistency and weather resistance, Melos granules ensure uniform, durable and high-quality surfaces – from athletics tracks and multisport facilities to playgrounds and courts. With 28 standard colours, a digital Granules Designer for colour mixes and the Stylemaker tool for creative floor motifs, Melos offers architects, designers and operators almost unlimited design freedom.
Under one joint banner, Polytan, Melos, FormaTurf and SYNLawn will present their latest product innovations – all united by a clear focus on sustainability, performance and design. A highlight of the stand will be the PolyPlay Arena GT, the most sustainable mini pitch to date. Visitors can test it live at the fair on the Sportstättenrechner area. The field impresses not only with its playability but also with its FormaTurf perimeter boards, made entirely from recycled artificial turf – a perfect example of circular economy in sports construction.
Polytan will also showcase Rekortan GEL GT, the first gel-based athletics track surface made with renewable raw materials. Certified by World Athletics for elite competition, it combines environmental responsibility with peak performance. Another innovation in the spotlight is the LigaTurf Cross Next R, a next-generation football turf offering exceptional density and resilience to meet professional-level demands.
SYNLawn will bring sporting excitement to the booth as well: visitors can test their swing on the Precision Putt in the TGL golf simulator. They can also discover the TrueStop system for golf facilities and the new SYNNatural 50 GTR landscaping turf – the same surface that impressed fans in Berlin’s Fan Zone.
At FormaTurf, everything revolves around the sustainable circular economy. The company will present 100% recycled products made from end-of-life artificial turf, including two new highlights: the TrionStein – a versatile edging stone – and the Flexblock, used among other things for the boards of the PolyPlay Arena GT.
Melos will celebrate colour in all its forms, displaying its vast palette of 28 standard hues and a wide variety of granule types that open up endless, creative and long-lasting design possibilities for sports and leisure surfaces.
Together, these brands demonstrate how innovation and sustainability go hand in hand – and how tomorrow’s sports facility solutions are already becoming reality today.
