A New Polytan Track for a Piece of Olympic History

Projects like this are what make us particularlyproud: together with our partner ErgoMass, we are currently creating a newPolytan athletics track featuring Melos Premium EPDM granuals at the historicPanathenaic Stadium in Athens.
This means we are becoming part of a truly specialproject at one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues. Built more than2,300 years ago, the stadium is known as the Kallimarmaro – Greek for“beautiful marble” – and is now receiving a completely new athletics trackbuilt to the latest World Athletics standards.
As the host venue of the first modern Olympic Games in1896, the stadium is deeply connected to Olympic history. The new track willhelp create the conditions for international athletics events at the highestlevel once again.
The new track also makes a statement in terms ofcolour. It will be installed in the distinctive Hertha Blue, a shade alreadyused for the athletics track at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and at other stadiumsacross Europe.
Together with the unique setting of the historicstadium, this creates a modern athletics track that fits impressively into theiconic Kallimarmaro.
The replacement of the existing track by ErgoMass is akey part of the stadium’s extensive modernisation. The new Rekortan M tracksystem will be installed to international competition standards, providingathletes with excellent conditions for future high-level athletics events. Theinside of the track will feature Rekortan PUR in Eggshell. The project alsoincludes extensive cleaning of the marble grandstands and a new lighting systemfor the entire stadium. In this way, the project brings together Olympictradition and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.
The history, international appeal and sportingsignificance of the Kallimarmaro are truly unique. We are therefore especiallyproud that athletes will soon be competing on a Polytan athletics track withMelos EPDM granuals in this extraordinary and historic stadium.
