Polytan SMART for Artificial Turf

Polytan SMART helps both amateur and professional athletes easily document and analyse their training performances. In many team sports, such as football or hockey, an increasing number of players are harnessing the possibilities of digital performance diagnostics to optimise their performances. Polytan SMART is particularly well-suited to artificial turf systems, and can be integrated in both new and existing facilities with very little effort. Once installed, the timing gates are available at all times for precise time measurement – in any weather and for an unlimited number of athletes at once.

THE INNOVATIVE IN-GROUND SYSTEM FOR PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTICS

The Polytan SMART system consists of integrated timing gates, the tried-and-tested diagnostics software from our partner Humotion, and a sensor weighing only 15 grams (or alternatively the user’s own smartphone). The Polytan SMART timing gates are completely maintenance-free and use permanent magnets that are permanently and securely installed in the ground. In contrast to other systems, no elaborate preparation, construction or renovation is required. Polytan SMART offers effortless and precise data collection. During each run the measurements are automatically recorded by the sensor or the user’s smartphone, which are attached to the athlete’s body.

How the system works:

PRECISION MEASUREMENTS FOR AMATEURS AND PROFESSIONALS

Polytan SMART provides optimal training support for all performance levels – from school and amateur sports to sports at the professional level. Compared to other measurement systems, Polytan SMART is versatile and simple to operate, offers high-precision measurements and automatic evaluation, and can be used by multiple athletes simultaneously.

Optimise training – maximise success

Use with the DX5.0 Bluetooth sensor and SmarTracks Diagnostics software

SmarTracks Diagnostics enable efficient and accurate measurement of various performance parameters. As well as linear runs, athletes can also test their agility with Change-of-Direction tests. In sports such as football, hockey and rugby, quick changes in direction, stops and maximum acceleration are essential. Movement is measured by a high-performance, lightweight sensor before being analysed and displayed by the diagnostic software. The results can be used to create a comprehensive athletic profile of the athlete, which subsequently helps them direct their training and exercises more effectively. For this purpose, Polytan SMART offers linear sprints, tapping and three standard jumps, as well as four standardised COD tests:

Linear sprints

In many sports, especially track and field, an athlete’s sprinting ability is of critical importance. With Polytan SMART, any distance can be measured depending on the placement of the timing gates. The diagnostics software not only offers precise time measurements, but also important running parameters such as number of steps, step frequency and stride length.

The tappings test is a test to determine cyclical speed. It is especially suitable for spotting “speed tal-ent”. Tapping performance depends on the ability to coordinate, as well as the individual’s level of strength. SmarTracks records the tapping frequency, i.e. the number of contacts with the ground per second, measured in Hertz. The number of ground contacts is determined over 6 or 15 seconds.

Jumping ability

An athlete’s jumping ability can be used to draw conclusions about the speed and strength of his or her leg muscles. As well as other conditional characteristics, such as endurance and strength, jumping ability has a direct impact on overall performance. Polytan SMART offers tests for three different standard jump types – drop jump, countermovement jump and squat jump.

Three Cone Drill

The Three Cone Drill (3CD) is one of the most popular agility tests in American football and is used to evaluate players in the NFL Scouting Combine. However, the test is suitable for all sports where agility is required and those that feature relatively short periods of activity and manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Arrowhead Agility Test

The Arrowhead Agility Test (AAT) is a simple but effective test to assess an athlete’s agility. Although it can be used in many team sports, it is most often used in football.

Illinois Agility Test

The Illinois Agility Test (IAT) is used to test the ability of an athlete to quickly change direction. The athlete should start in an upright position and manoeuvre his or her way through the course as quickly as possible. The test must be performed from both sides to fully assess the athlete’s abilities.

5-10-5 Shuttle

The 5-10-5 Shuttle, also known as the Pro Agility Test, consists of quick changes of direction in a linear fashion. It is typically used in football, American football, hockey and many other sports.

Custom Agility Test

The custom agility test allows trainers and athletes to create their own tests, whether tailored for a specific sport or to recreate other popular tests (e.g. the 10-5 test) that are not included in SmarTracks Diagnostics. Please note: Custom tests must meet certain specifications before they can be created.

Tapping

The tapping test determines cyclical speed and is particularly useful for identifying talented sprinters. The diagnostic sensor measures tapping frequency, i.e. the number of contacts with the ground per second, measured in hertz. Tapping frequency depends on coordination skills and individual strength. The number of contacts can be measured in 6 or 15 seconds, the two most common durations for the test.

Use with a smartphone

The Smart Run by Humotion app offers the option to record and display all the relevant parameters of linear sprints, assisted by sensors in the smartphone. To do this, the smartphone simply needs to be placed in a running belt on the athlete’s lower back, and the app will measure all the data.

Download the free Smart Run by Humotion app to your smartphone at the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
