Sustainable multisport refurbishment with high-performance sports surfaces by Polytan

The comprehensive refurbishment of Stade Jean Scialo in Montpellier has resulted in a modern multisport complex combining top-level performance, versatile use and environmental responsibility. As part of the Laquet / Polytan consortium, Polytan France was responsible for the installation of all sports surfaces. Following the completion of the base construction works, Polytan delivered surfaces for field hockey, athletics, basketball, surrounding areas and a street workout zone, creating a durable and future-oriented sports facility.

Poligras Paris GT zero – a carbon-neutral hockey turf

The hockey pitch features Poligras Paris GT zero, a bio-based synthetic turf made from sugar cane-derived plastic and installed on an in-situ cast elastic layer. It is the world’s first carbon-neutral hockey turf and delivers outstanding playability at the highest international level. Poligras Paris GT zero was also used for the hockey competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Rekortan M – a world-renowned athletics surface

The athletics track was equipped with Rekortan M (13 mm), a cast-in-place polyurethane system known worldwide for its durability, optimal force reduction and consistent performance in training and competition.

PolyPlay SE – versatile basketball surface

For the basketball court, PolyPlay SE (10 mm) was installed. This polyurethane sports surface offers excellent resistance, low maintenance requirements and versatility for both school and club sports.

LigaTurf Cross R – a durable turf with recycled content

The surrounding areas and street workout zone were completed using LigaTurf Cross R, a synthetic turf incorporating 20% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material in the fibre, combining robustness with reduced environmental impact.

A sustainable sports complex for the future

In close cooperation with the city of Montpellier and planning consultants A2C Sports, the project demonstrates how sustainability, performance and long-term durability can be successfully combined in modern sports infrastructure.
