The complete refurbishment of the main rugby pitch at Stade André Mirtin marks an important step towards sustainable sports infrastructure in Parentis-en-Born. Polytan France was part of the Lafitte Paysage / Colas / Polytan France consortium, delivering an innovative and environmentally responsible turf system at the sports venue. Following the completion of groundworks and base layers, Polytan installed a surface that combines high-performance rugby characteristics with a reduced environmental footprint.
The pitch features LigaTurf Cross GT zero, a bio-based synthetic turf made from sugar cane-derived plastic. It is the world’s first carbon-neutral synthetic turf designed specifically for rugby, offering excellent durability, traction and playing comfort.
The turf system is complemented by:
• an in-situ cast elastic layer made from recycled materials and 100% recyclable at end of life,
• a bio-based, renewable infill consisting of sand and cork.
This construction significantly reduces the use of virgin materials while maintaining top-level sporting performance.
Developed in close cooperation with the city of Parentis-en-Born and planning consultants AM Sport Conseil, the project demonstrates how sustainability and elite sports performance can successfully go hand in hand.
