Modern athletics facility in Marbella sets new design benchmarks

The Pista Municipal de Atletismo in Marbella (Málaga, Spain) is a modern athletics facility featuring a distinctive and visually compelling design. It combines high-performance sporting functionality with a bold visual concept, creating an infrastructure that sets new benchmarks in both athletic performance and design.

The project was delivered by the Spanish partner SportSer, who developed the facility as a versatile training and competition venue. At its core is a six-lane circular track alongside an eight-lane sprint straight within the infield, providing optimal conditions for a wide range of disciplines. The facility is approved for official competitions and complies with the requirements of the Spanish Athletics Federation.

In addition to running disciplines, the venue includes facilities for the long jump and triple jump, as well as other technical events, enabling a broad spectrum of sporting activities for different user groups.

A Rekortan AS GT surface in Hertha Blue was installed. As part of the Polytan GT range, this permeable synthetic surface represents a sustainable and high-performance solution for modern athletics tracks. Rekortan AS GT meets all requirements for competition tracks and multi-use facilities, while also offering efficient and rapid installation – making it a compelling alternative to traditional cast-in-situ systems.

The choice of Hertha Blue was a key element of the design concept and plays a defining role in the facility’s modern and high-quality appearance.

A standout feature is the artistic design of the infield areas and the spaces between the track and the sprint straight. The vibrant geometric elements give the facility a distinctive visual identity and clearly set it apart from conventional sports venues. This design was created by a local artist and adds a unique creative dimension to the functional sports infrastructure.

With its combination of a high-performance Rekortan AS GT system, a sustainable approach and an exceptional design concept, the facility in Marbella positions itself as a modern athletics venue with strong visual impact, meeting the demands of both training and official competition.
