With just over 7,000 inhabitants, Gran Tarajal is the third largest town on the island of Fuerteventura. The area around Gran Tarajal is characterized by mountains of red lava rock. The temperatures there are mild all year round, which has earned the Canary Islands generally the nickname “islands of eternal spring.” However, as strong winds are blowing constantly and there is hardly any rainfall, the climate is classified as “semi-desert.” The Estadio de Atletismo Gran Tarajal, located in southern Fuerteventura, is one of the few athletics stadiums that even exist on the island. Sports enthusiasts can practice various athletics disciplines there. In 2023, a comprehensive renovation of the stadium took place, which included not only the renovation of the athletic track's sports floor, but also the improvement of the areas for long and triple jump as well as high and pole vault. We have the six running tracks, the sprint tracks and the areas for the jumping disciplines with Rekortan M renewed in brick red, our all-rounder for competition and training facilities in athletics. At the Estadio de Atletismo Gran Tarajal, the cast-coated surface is used primarily for running and runways. Rekortan M impresses professionals and amateurs with excellent acceleration and pedaling elasticity, and sports doctors are impressed by its high cushioning and optimal power transfer. The fact that the surface is also very fast and always good for top performance makes it an absolute professional among sports floors. Because the granulate is scattered with a visible tip, Rekortan M is also ideal for spikes. Mayor Esther Hernández explained the renovation at the Estadio de Atletismo with obvious arguments: “The Gran Tarajal track and field track is in high demand because it is the only one in the south of the island and athletes can only train there. It was therefore particularly important for the local government to improve it.” The users of the system are also students from the Instituto de Educación Secundaria (I.E.S.) Gran Tarajal. At Atletismo IES Gran Tarajal, you can not only train in the sport of your choice, but also train yourself to become a “sports technician in athletics.” This degree is a prerequisite for later working as a trainer yourself. And of course, the Estadio de Atletismo is also popular with leisure sports enthusiasts.
