Renovation of outdoor surfaces at the University Sports Center in Turin
The metropolis of Turin is rightly regarded not only as the pearl of Piedmont but also as the sports city of northern Italy, with football clearly dominating. In 1934 and 1990, matches from the two Football World Cups held in Italy took place here. Undoubtedly, the city's flagship is Juventus Turin, a record champion with 36 titles in Italian men's football, affectionately nicknamed the "Old Lady." The women’s team, founded only in 2017, is currently writing its own success story, having already won the Italian championship five times and both the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup three times each. But Turin shines in other sports as well: The city hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the very first European Athletics Championships also took place here. At the CUS Torino, the Centro Universitario Sportivo Torinese, we undertook extensive renovations and redesigns of the sports surfaces. For instance, a large football field as well as two small-sided football fields were equipped with LigaTurf Legend Pro, our powerhouse when it comes to peak performance on the football pitch. Its multi-shape filament cross-section ensures optimal fiber resilience for perfect sports-specific performance, as confirmed by numerous certifications according to international standards. Additionally, the specially designed shape provides ball-rolling and play characteristics that mimic natural grass. On another small-sided football field, LigaGrass Pro in Rion blue with Rion green edging was installed. This surface is a true pioneer among textured football turf systems, utilizing Polytan’s PreciTex texturization technology to process functionally optimized filament shapes with a maximum thickness of up to 250 μm. Triangular-shaped filaments ensure greater structure and increased stability, while the bi-colour (two-tone) design creates a highly realistic turf appearance. For ecological reasons, the infill choice was sand-only, with no elastic infill granules used. The six-lane running tracks at the athletics stadium were finished in Rekortan M in sky blue, while areas for jumping disciplines were done in Rekortan M in Hertha blue. The same surface was applied to the basketball court located in one of the sectors. Rekortan M is the professional choice among our track surfaces, recognized for its excellent acceleration and high elasticity. Lastly, two adjacent tennis courts were surfaced with Polytan synthetic turf. The University Sports Center of Turin is the largest multi-sport organization in Italy in terms of the range of disciplines it offers, as well as the continuity and level of its activities. Its main goal is to provide sports services to the Polytechnic and the University of Turin, enhancing the quality of life for all students and the non-academic community alike.
