CO2-neutral football turf at the heart of sports

The small town of Poligny, situated on the edge of the Jura region, is one of the centers of the Jura wine region in eastern France. It is also known as the birthplace of Comté cheese – a historically reliable food source for the rural population during long and snowy winters. It even has its own museum dedicated to it, the Maison du Comté. Today, this community of just 4,000 residents serves as the sporting heart of the entire Jura department. This is thanks to numerous local and regional sports clubs, as well as many modern, well-equipped sports facilities, which are all part of the Complexe sportif de Poligny, inaugurated in 2005. The site includes a natural grass field used for football and rugby, a track and field area for all common disciplines, and a football field with artificial turf. The Salle omnisports du Champ d’Orain is primarily used for basketball, while handball is played at the Salle du Cosec Claude Jeanneret. Boule Lyonnaise is professionally played on several courts, some covered and some open-air. The football field with artificial turf – the first of its kind in the Jura department at the time – was renovated at the turn of the year 2022/2023. Our LigaTurf Cross GT zero surface was installed in a lime green/field green color combination. With the first CO2-neutral football turf for professional and recreational sports, Poligny has taken another significant step towards the future. Our LigaTurf Cross GT zero combines high environmental and sustainability standards with climate protection requirements, without compromising the durability of the turf or its usability. The LigaTurf Cross GT zero features filaments made from up to 70 percent bio-based raw materials (PE). To protect the climate, the turf requires approximately 50 percent less infill granulate, with better retention of the granulate as well. With this turf system, clubs now have a strong argument amidst current discussions about infill regulations. The Poligny Grimont Football Club (PGFC), the main user of the field, is thrilled with the new artificial turf. Its name refers to the former Château de Grimont, which once stood above the town. The football club is part of the Entente Jura Centre Athlétisme (EJCA), an organization aiming to inspire young people from the entire Jura region to engage in sports. Alongside the town of Poligny, EJCA organizes a national tournament on the sports complex every year, supported by renowned athletes. For this event and many others, the sporting heart beats in the middle of the Jura.
