Campo di Atletica Angelo Lagorio renewed with Rekortan M RT and equipped with Polytan SMART

The Italian port city of Imperia is located in western Liguria, directly on the ancient Roman road Via Aurelia. Today, the Autostrada dei Fiori is the key transportation route, connecting the city of roughly 50,000 residents to Genoa and Nice. The city, long characterized by fishing and tourism, lies in the heart of the Flower Riviera, known for its extensive flower fields and numerous flower markets. In Borgo Prino, near the western district of Porto Maurizio, the Campo di Atletica Angelo Lagorio athletics stadium is located. Here, athletes can train on the eight-lane round track "Angelo Lagorio" with views of the Ligurian Sea. Thanks to the particularly mild coastal climate, outdoor training is possible even during the off-season. As part of an extensive renovation, various products of ours were utilized in Imperia. The eight-lane 400-meter track was renewed with Rekortan M RT — with this Re-Topping process by Polytan, worn and dilapidated synthetic surfaces are technically and visually restored. This represents an extremely economical solution for renovating sports facilities, as existing elastic sub-surfaces can be reused and thus do not need to be disposed of. The sprint track and the long jump facility were also renovated in the same Sky Blue color. Meanwhile, sectors designated for disciplines such as high jump and shot put were renewed with Rekortan M RT in Rainbow Blue. Poligras Platinum in London Blue was used for the edging of the round track. The technical highlight of the Campo di Atletica Angelo Lagorio is undoubtedly Polytan SMART, our intelligent system for measuring and documenting training performance and the perfect solution for professional athletes and ambitious sportspeople. Polytan SMART enables not only precise timing and performance diagnostics for classic athletic disciplines but also allows for precise measurement of run-ups for long jump or pole vault. The results help to target training sessions and ensure controlled and sustainable performance improvement. In September 2021, the A. Lagorio athletics stadium in Imperia was inaugurated after extensive renovation work. “The modern facility is suitable for hosting national and international events,” said Mayor Claudio Scajola, calling it “a world-class facility, and one of the best athletics stadiums in Italy.” He emphasizes its attractiveness to athletes from across Italy, not just due to the modern measurement technology but also thanks to top athletes who train here — such as Luminosa Bogliolo, the Italian champion in the 100m hurdles between 2018 and 2021 and a participant in the 2020 Olympics. Or Davide Re, who grew up in Imperia and specializes in the 400m. Re has won three gold medals at national championships and was the first Italian to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m. He reached the semifinals in the 400m at the Tokyo Olympics. Reflecting on his early days in Imperia, he said: "I grew up here, and the track used to be less than 400m long.” But he also noted: “When sports facilities are beautiful and modern, young people are drawn to athletics." In Imperia, he explicitly affirmed that a meticulously constructed track ensures better performance and protects the athletes. The Olympian, already preparing for the 2024 Games, joined the sentiment of the inauguration attendees: “Oggi è la festa della città di Imperia, la festa dello sport" (Today is a celebration of the city of Imperia, a celebration of sports). The venue is accessible year-round for training sessions and competitions — not just for professionals but for anyone looking to stay fit during their daily routines or while on holiday. In winter and spring, the Campo also hosts schools for tournaments, competitions, and award ceremonies.
